Starting School

St Gregory’s is a truly welcoming, caring and friendly school. We believe it offers children the best possible start to their ‘formal’ education in school with small class sizes and outstanding teachers.

Any parent who is interested in applying for a school place at St Gregory’s should initially contact the head teacher to arrange a visit where parents will be given information about the school and have the opportunity to look at the facilities and talk to the staff. All parents and children are welcome to join us for our celebration assembly which takes place in the school hall every Friday at 3pm.  The admissions process is managed by Cheshire East and all parents need to apply via the below link by mid January before your child is due to start school in September.  Reception children attend several sessions at school in the half term before they are due to start at St Gregory’s. This helps to familiarise them with the school routine and develop friendships. Sometimes school is a completely different environment than a child has experienced before. When your child first starts school they will have a staggered start/finish time, allowing them to get used to the school environment gradually. In addition they will be paired up with a child in Year 6 who will be their ‘buddy’ throughout their first year at St Gregory’s.

All school applications must be made through Cheshire East at https://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/schools/admissions/admissions.aspx

When does my child have to start school officially?

Cheshire East Council's Admission Policy for all schools is as follows:-

"Any child reaching the age of 5 between 1st September and 31st August may be admitted full time to school on the first day of the Autumn Term in September"

We encourage parents to admit their child on the first day of the Autumn Term as this does help children settle and make friends early on.  We are very aware of the needs of young children and are flexible in our approach so that children feel happy and secure.
